May 10, 2010 ATTENTION APPRENTICES ENROLLED IN THE WBFAA UATC! The following E-Bulletin is a weekly source of information for our apprentices. Information in the E-Bulletin is updated and sent weekly.

April 2010 On-The-Job Training (OJT) Hours Due TODAY (Revised 5/10/10) All hours worked on the job should be logged and reported to the WBFAA UATC. An apprentice who is working full-time should report around 160 hours per month. On-the-Job Training for the previous month (April 2010) should be finalized and sent to our office by TODAY (5/10).. Please make sure both signatures (apprentice; employer) are provided AND your name is PRINTED on the OJT Reporting Form or Log Sheet before submitting to our office. OJT Forms for single month reporting may be downloaded in the FORMS section of our website www.wbfaa.net. Any apprentice who becomes three months delinquent will be sent a notice of status change.
Related Supplemental Instruction (RSI) (Revised 5/10/10) The Spring 2010 Term for all semesters has concluded. A notice containing the results from the previous Term (Spring 2010) will be sent to all apprentices this week. The next Term (Fall 2010) is scheduled to begin in late August. All courses will be offered via Online Learning – further information on the Fall 2010 Term will be sent to all apprentices and employers by mid July.
NOTE: Apprentices who have completed their sixth semester of RSI will be sent additional information regarding eligibility for completion from the Apprenticeship Program with the course results for the Spring 2010 Term.
Fall 2010 Term Related Supplemental Instruction (RSI) (Revised 4/26/10) The following apprentice courses will be in session for the Fall 2010 Term: 1st Semester via Online Learning 2nd Semester via Online Learning 3rd Semester via Online Learning 5th Semester via Online Learning
The start date for the Fall 2010 Term of apprentice courses is scheduled for mid-late August. Information regarding course assignment, schedule, and lab locations will be sent in mid July.
CPR Certification Cards for 1st Semester Apprentices (Revised 5/10/10) The CPR Certification Cards for apprentices in the Spring 2010 Term of the 1st Semester Course who were in the NORTH Lab will be sent to each apprentice this week. Apprentices who were in the SOUTH Lab will be contacted by the WBFAA UATC Training Office this week to assist in obtaining the CPR Certification.
Mlieage Re-Imbursement for Lab Sessions (Revised 5/3/10) Checks for Apprentices in the 2nd Semester and 4th Semester who were required to travel more than 40 miles (one way) to their lab location were issued Friday, April 30. The checks should arrive to all qualifying apprentices within five (5) to seven (7) days of this date. Please refer to your Final Lab fact sheet for information on how mileage is calculated.
Mileage / travel re-imbursement checks for Apprentices in the 1st Semester (Mid-Term/Final Lab), and 6th Semester (Mid-Term/Final Lab) who were required to travel more than 40 miles (one way) to their lab location will be issued on May 15.
Related Supplemental Instruction (RSI) Final Lab Dates (Revised 5/10/10) The Lab Dates for all semesters scheduled for the Fall 2010 Term will be available in mid July.
Apprentice Upgrades (Revised 5/10/10) Apprentice upgrades for the month of May 2010 will be reviewed and granted to qualifying apprentices tomorrow (5/11). Apprentice Upgrades are granted based on 1000 hours of OJT reported to our office AND successful completion of one (1) semester of RSI training during the current wage step.
Online Learning (First & Second Semester) Technical Problems (Revised 3/1/10) Apprentices in the First & Second Semester Apprentice Courses via Online Learning who are experiencing technical difficulties with the website (Logging In, Accessing Training, etc.) should contact Technical Support directly 502-254-1506 or by e-mail support@wbfaatraining.net. Technical Support is available for assistance between 5 A.M. and 5 P.M.
Enrolling in Chabot College (First Semester Only) (Revised 1/5/10) All apprentices assigned to the First Semester Apprentice Class via Online Learning for the Fall 2010 Term are required to enroll in Chabot College, the college which all apprentice classes are offered through. The application process can be performed online at http://www.cccapply.org/Applications/California_Community_College/apply/Chabot_College.html. The application process takes about 15-20 minutes. During the Application Process, you will be asked to declare a major – please select UNDECLARED from the option box.
Please confirm completion of application by forwarding the confirmation number via e-mail info@wbfaa.net or by contacting our office directly 800/809-0280. Any apprentice not enrolled in Chabot College by the first class date will be removed from the class roster.
WBFAA UATC Apprenticeship Handbook (Revised 7/20/09) Please be sure to review the Apprenticeship Handbook, found in the FORMS section on our website www.wbfaa.net. The handbook outlines the requirements for indentured apprentices in the WBFAA UATC and is a good source of information for matters relating to wage step upgrades, OJT requirements, RSI Curriculum, etc.
Maintaining Contact Info (Revised 7/20/09) All apprentices are required to maintain their current home address, cell phone number, and e-mail address with our office. Please contact our office 800-809-0280 or info@wbfaa.net if you are moving or if your contact information changes.
WBFAA UATC Apprenticeship Program (Revised 8/3/09) The WBFAA UATC Apprenticeship Program is a three year program which is comprised of six semesters of Related Supplemental Instruction (RSI) through Chabot College and 6000 Hours of On-the-Job Training to be performed with a member company of the WBFAA UATC. The State of California Department of Industrial Relations requires ALL technicians working as a fire/life safety technician in California to be either a). Certified fire/life safety technician or b). In a state-approved apprenticeship program. As an apprentice in the WBFAA UATC, a state approved apprenticeship program for fire/life safety technicians, you are legally able to work in California as a fire/life safety technician on Public Works jobs as well as private jobs.
