State of California Certification

The WBFAA UATC Apprenticeship Program will provide pre-testing for the State of California certification exam.  The passing grade for the pretest is 80%; NEC and NFPA 72 code books may be used during the test.  The test will be graded in a manner that will indicate the areas of weakness that require further study.  Journeymen will receive a report of their results, remedial requirements and final results.  Employers will receive a pass/fail report for each of their employees.

A Journeyman with more than 4,000 hours who does not pass the test can enroll in the modules that are indicated for remedial study to prepare to take the State of California Certification Exam for Fire/Life Safety Technician.

Journeymen may choose to retest in those areas where they scored less than 80%.

For a Technician who does not Pass the Certification Exam

The WBFAA UATC Training Office offers an evaluation of the Journeyman and recommends enrollment in specific courses in the Apprenticeship Program.

For an Employee with Less Than 4,000 Hours of Field Work

The WBFAA UATC Training Office offers an evaluation based on work experience, educational experience and competency.  The employee will then be placed in the appropriate level of the Fire/Life Safety Apprenticeship Program.
