FIRST GRADUATING CLASS HONORED

The first graduating class of the WBFAA UATC Fire/Life Safety Technician Apprenticeship and Training Program were honored at the California Alarm Association Convention in San Francisco.  Celebrating the achievement were WBFAA UATC Board members George De Marco, George Gunning, Ron Dalton, Julia Dozier of Chabot-Las Positas Community College District, graduate apprentices Scott Jordan, Henry Vargas and Robert Bellefeuille, instructor Doug Myers and CAA President Jon Sargent.

 

 

FIRE/LIFE SAFETY TECHNICIAN APPRENTICESHIP & TRAINING PROGRAM

The WBFAA Unilateral Apprenticeship and Training Committee is a statewide apprenticeship training program approved by the State of California Division of Apprenticeship Standards.  The program incorporates 6,000 hours of supervised On-The-Job Training (OJT) with 525 Hours of Related Supplemental Instruction (RSI) through Chabot-Las Positas Community College District.

 

The Western Burglar & Fire Alarm Association (WBFAA) was formed by the California Alarm Association (CAA) and the California Automatic Fire Alarm Association to sponsor an apprenticeship program to comply with the State of California requirement and to promote professionalism in our Fire/Life Safety industry.

 

CONTRACTORS

The law requires that all technicians working with 100 volt amperes or above must be certified by the State of California or must be enrolled in an approved apprenticeship and training program.

bulletAll technical field employees of an electrical contractor (C10) must be certified or enrolled in an approved apprenticeship program.
bulletWBFAA UATC provides relevant apprentice training as well as exam preparation support and CEUs for Certified Fire/Life Safety Technicians.

 

APPRENTICES

bulletEach new employee must hold a high school diploma or GED and to be enrolled.
bulletApprentices report supervised OJT hours monthly and receive classroom or online instruction.

 

JOURNEYMEN

bulletReceive instruction and support to take and pass the certification exam.
bulletProvide supervision to Apprentices on the job.
bulletReceive relevant training and education to achieve the 32 hours of Continuing Education Units for renewal.
